What Is Altcoin Season?
Altcoin season is a market regime in which a broad group of large altcoins outperform Bitcoin over a defined period. It does not mean every altcoin is rising, and it should not be treated as a prediction of future returns.
How Is This Index Calculated?
CoinMarketCap compares the rolling 90-day performance of the top 100 eligible coins with Bitcoin, excluding stablecoins and wrapped or asset-backed tokens. A reading of 75 or above indicates Altcoin Season; 25 or below indicates Bitcoin Season.
How Should You Read It?
The index measures breadth of relative performance, not market direction. A high reading means many eligible altcoins have beaten Bitcoin over 90 days; it does not guarantee that altcoins will continue to outperform.
